The colder months of the new year are typically slower months for portrait photographers. Most portrait studios work on marketing campaigns, updating websites, and getting financial books in order. While I find myself doing those things as well, I also use this time to pursue a different type of photography--nature photography. When the weather gets really cold, the rivers will freeze up--except at locations near locks and dams. Migratory bald eagles use this as an opportunity to go ice fishing. This, of course, creates photo opportunities for nature photographers. Here are some images from a recent trip to the locks and dams on the Mississippi River in Eastern Iowa. Enjoy.
